Dividing the Bread Completing story for Class 6
One day, two cats stole a piece of cake from the kitchen of a householder. They had a dispute over their shares. As a result, they did not come to a decision on how they would divide the cake themselves. They exchanged a lot of hot words. But all went in vain.
Then, they were about to fight with each other. At that moment, a monkey came there. He heard the whole thing and told the cats to give the cake to him. He gave them word that he would divide it equally between them. The monkey broke the cake into two pieces.
One piece grew a bit bigger than the other. He bit off a portion from the bigger piece, and it now became a bit smaller than the other piece. Again, he bit off a portion from the second piece to make the two pieces. The second piece grew smaller again, equal to that time. The monkey tactfully ate the whole cake. The cats could understand their foolishness and were very sorry for it.
Dividing the Bread: Completing story for Class 7, 8
Once, two rats found a loaf of bread. They could not agree among themselves to divide the bread. Each of them wanted the larger share of it. They quarrelled for some time on this. But at last, one of the rats suggested going to the monkey who had a scale.
So they went to the monkey to divide the piece of bread properly. The cunning monkey divided the piece in such a way that it was not equally divided. Then he cut a small piece and ate it instantly, which was larger than the other.
Again, the dish of the scale was unequal, and the monkey ate another small part of the larger portion. He continued this method, and the piece of bread became smaller gradually. The rats understood the monkey’s crafty trick and ordered him to stop that. The monkey stopped his deception but claimed the rest of the bread as his charge.

When they failed to reach any amicable settlement, they went to a monkey to divide the bread equally.
The monkey brought a pair of scales. He tore the bread into two pieces and put them on the scales. The monkey told the cats that one piece was bigger than the other. So, he bit off a part of the bigger piece. As a result, the other piece became heavier.
Then the monkey took a part of the heavier piece and put it on the scale. The monkey continued doing the same thing again and again until there remained only one piece. Now, the cats told the monkey to return that little piece to them. They said that they themselves would divide the bread equally.
But the monkey said that he had toiled much to divide the bread equally. So, he wanted it as his fee. Saying so, the monkey ate up that piece also. The cats left the place in a very sad mood, but the incident made them wise.

One day, two rats stole a piece of bread. They tried to divide it into two equal parts, but failed. They fought for that. Lastly, they agreed to put up
their problem to the monkey, who was considered the wisest animal in the forest. They went to the monkey and asked him to divide the bread into two equal parts.
The cunning monkey divided the cake into two pieces, but the bread was not equally divided. One piece was larger than the other. The first part became larger than the second one. The cunning monkey ate some portion from the first part, and this part became smaller.
Then he took some portion from the second part, and this part again became smaller. Thus, the monkey continued taking some portion from the larger part. The result of the method was that at last there was only a very small part.
Now, the rats could understand the trick of the monkey, and so they told the monkey to return only that small piece of bread. The monkey became angry and claimed that piece of bread as his charge and took it away the piece. At last, the rats could understand their foolishness.
