A Journey by Bus Composition (1)

Introduction: Nowadays, buses have become an important means of transport in our country. In big towns and cities, bus is an inseparable part of life. Apart from the short runs, long-distance journeys can also be made by bus all over the country. Last week I made a long-distance journey by bus.

Beginning of the Journey: I had to go to Dhaka from Mymensingh. I went to the bus terminal at Mashkanda and got on the bus, ready for the start. The conductor, in his characteristic style of shouting like ‘Dhaka, Dhaka, only two and a half hours’ journey, direct service’ was inviting the passengers to get on board. I entered it, and he pressed me into a crowded berth in the middle. Within five minutes, many people thronged inside, and no room was left even to move our hands and feet.

The Journey and Its Experiences: The bus started slowly at 11 am and gradually increased its speed. Sometimes, it ran at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. It ran on, leaving behind the shops, the buildings, the houses, the schools and colleges, the cluster of villages and vast cornfields, the forests and marketplaces on either side of the highway. The sights and scenes of nature were very delightful. The passers-by and the people who were seen busy pursuing their daily avocations of life moved me with a kind of strange delight. In the course of the journey, the bus stopped at Trishal, Bhaluka, Mauna, Rajendrapur, Joydevpur, Tongi, Uttara, and at some other minor stoppages where the passengers got down and got on board. The bus arrived at Mahakali Terminal at about 2 pm we marking the end of our journey.

Conclusion: A journey by bus is not, after all, a bad journey. As far as I am concerned, it is enjoyable to me. But a journey by bus can be made more pleasant and attractive if the Bus Owners’ Association pays a little attention to the comfort of the passengers and if the general condition of the BRTC buses is improved.

Introduction: Science has given us many quick means of travel to save our time and toil. In the progress of the modern communication system, the contribution of buses cannot be denied. In towns and cities, we go by bus from one place to another. Here we go to short places by bus, and so we do not feel like making a journey. But a long journey by bus is another experience.

Description: On the fixed day, I got in the bus at the Johnson Road branch at about 8:00 AM. I bought some food and a bottle of drinking water. Then I took my seat. At 8:15 AM, the bus started. The weather was fine with a cloudless sky above. The bus started plying at a good speed. Soon, it left Dhaka city and entered the countryside. The bus was moving along the road with green fields and a village on both sides. It was running ahead, leaving behind the trees, houses, and small shops on either side of the road. After two hours, the bus reached Aricha Ghat.

An interesting part of the journey was crossing the river by ferry. Reaching Aricha, I, as well as other passengers, got down from the bus and walked to the ferry. At the time I got down from the bus, I felt a good relief from the suffocating atmosphere inside the crowded bus. Crossing the river by ferry in the gentle breeze was very pleasant indeed.

After getting down from the ferry, I got on the bus. Taking snacks and drinking some water, I felt refreshed. Then the bus started for Khulna. I was sitting beside the door. The bus was running at a great speed, and I felt drowsy. Suddenly, I was awakened by a jolt. When the bus stopped, I found that I had reached my destination. I was getting down in a hurry.

Boredom: The journey was actually thrilling and pleasing. But I felt somewhat bored as I could not move freely. I had to remain sitting constantly in my seat for quite a long time. So this made my bus journey monotonous.

Conclusion: The journey was instructive too. I often recall this journey as its memory gives me eternal joy.
