Abou Ben Adhem was a pious man. He was sleeping in his room one night. He suddenly woke up and saw an angel in his room. The Angel was writing
something in a golden book. He asked the Angel what he was writing. The angel told him that he was writing the names of those who loved God.
Abou Ben Adhem asked him if his name was there in the list of those who loved God. The Angel replied negatively. Then Abou Ben Adhem requested the Angel to write his name in the list of those who loved their fellow beings. Then the Angel flew away.
When the Angel came next night again, he showed Abou ben Adhem the list of those whom love of God had blessed, and Abou ben Adhem’s name was at the top of the list. It showed that God loves those people who love their fellow man.

Abu Ben Adham was a good man. He was very honest and pious. He helped all men and women in distress. People said,” Ask Abu and he will do it for you.” People liked him.
One night, Abu was sleeping in his bed. There was a strange light in his room. He woke up and saw an angel in the room. The angel was writing attentively in a book of gold and was writing the names of the persons who loved others selflessly. Abu asked the angel if his name was there.
In reply, the angel said that his name was not there. Abu then requested to put his name in the list because he loved mankind and his fellow brothers. So he belonged to the group of lovers of mankind.
Hearing this, the angel went away, talking down his request. He again appeared the next night. Abu was very curious to know about the names on the list. The angel showed him the list, and he found that his name was at the top. The angel told Abu that it was his reward from God, who is just and fair.
