Once upon a time, there was a greedy king called Midas. He was extremely fond of gold. Though he had enough gold, he wanted more. He thought if he had the golden touch, he would be the happiest man in the world.
A wise god granted his wish promptly. Half an hour later, as the king was sitting under an apple tree in his garden, suddenly, a ripe apple fell beside him. He picked it up. When he touched it, the apple turned into gold. He could hardly believe his eyes.
Then whatever he touched turned into gold. While he entered his palace, his little daughter ran up to him and he took her in his arms. She turned into gold. The king was struck with horror. The king cried out in anguish. Immediately, the wise god took the golden touch away and the girl became human again.

King Midas was a wealthy king. But he always hankered after wealth, mostly after wealth, mostly after gold. He desired to accumulate all the gold in the world.
One day he was loitering in his garden when God Mercury appeared before him and asked, “What do you want, my son?” The King said, “My Lord, please give such a boon, so I may get as much gold as I wish.”
God granted his prayer, “What you touch will become gold.” He then disappeared. The King was elated. To test God’s word he touched a flower that instantly became gold. Throughout the day he gathered a lot of gold. he became hungry and thirsty.
But when he touched food, it also turned into gold. He felt sorry. Just then his beloved daughter came running. As soon as she hugged the king, she became a golden statue. Tears rolled down the cheeks of Midas.
He prayed to God to take back the cursed boon. God Mercury took pity on him and took back the boon of golden touch.

Once there was a king called Midas. He was very rich. Rich people are never satisfied. They want more and more. The more they have, the more they want. The king was not satisfied. He thought, if he had the golden touch, he would be the happiest man.
A wise god granted his wish promptly. That afternoon Midas was sitting near an apple tree in the palace orchard. A ripe apple fell from the tree in front. He picked it up. It became gold. Midas realized that he had been gifted with the golden touch.
He was overwhelmed with joy. He entered the palace with an ecstasy of joy. His little daughter, Marigold, came running to her father. Midas took her up in his arms with an intensity of glee. But alas! There was a statue of gold in his lap. The princess became all gold.
The king was at his wit’s end. A terrible shock rents his heart. The princess was no more than Marigold. Now he needed Marigold and not gold. He was shedding bitter tears. He realized his mistake and tried to rectify himself.
Suddenly his face beamed up. He remembered the wise god. He prayed to him to take away the golden touch. The wise god heard the king’s prayer and lifted from him the golden touch.
Midas felt profoundly grateful. He took the princess again into his lap. She became Marigold. Midas’ joys then knew no bounds. He grew wiser and gave up his greed.
Moral: Greed leads to ruin.
