Introduction
Climate change refers to the detrimental state of the world’s climate. The world’s climate is changing significantly due to the imbalance of nature. Climate change has recently become a serious global concern. It is said that Bangladesh has suffered much from the changes in the climate.
Causes of Climate Change
There are many causes of climate change. It is caused by environmental pollution. Carbon dioxide is the main cause of it. Pollutants such as methane and chlorofluorocarbons also contribute to climate change. Deforestation, burning down of tropical rainforests, increasing number of vehicles on the roads, rapid growth of industry, burning of wood and oil, use of detergents like washing powder and washing up liquid, lack of consciousness, etc., are greatly responsible for the greenhouse effect.
Effects
The effects of climate change are, no doubt, serious and harmful. The greenhouse effect causes a great change in weather and climate. The world’s temperature is increasing day by day. It has been predicted that by mid-way through the next century temperatures may have risen as much as 4°c. The world would be hotter. This change will greatly reduce man’s ability to grow food and damage wildlife and wilderness. As a result of global warming, the ice in the Polar Regions is melting. This may raise the sea level and flood coastal areas.
The alarming news for Bangladesh is that the lower southern part of the country may one day go underwater. Different natural calamities like floods, cyclones, droughts, tide bores, excessive rainfall, river erosion, etc, are taking place and causing great loss to our lives and property.
Solutions
It is high time to prevent greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Necessary measures should be taken to minimise the emission of these gases. We should plant more and more trees because trees absorb carbon dioxide. Old vehicles should not be allowed to ply on the roads. Moreover, vehicles may use CNG gas. The most important thing is to raise public awareness. Mass media like radio, television, mobile phone, social network services, etc., can play an important role in this regard.
Conclusion
The world is going to be faced with the threat of extinction as a result of climate change. So we all, including the international community, must work unitedly to create a better environment for our safe lives on this beautiful earth.

We take various elements from nature for our use. We also behave rudely toward nature. It has destroyed the balance of nature. The elements of nature are limited; most of the time, we forget it. However, unplanned urbanization and industrialization have affected the world environment enormously. The enormous pollution of the environment is the most significant cause of the change in the world’s climate. Bangladesh is also under the threat of it.
Causes
The climate is changing mostly because of the greenhouse effect. The balance of the environment is breaking down for increasing the average temperature owing to the greenhouse effect. According to the observation of the IPCC, the average temperature of Bangladesh has increased from 0.2 to 1 degree Celsius. Bangladesh is under a great threat because it is in the Asian region. The probable threats to Bangladesh for global warming include: floods, cyclones, high tides, etc, which will be increased due to the change of the climate. It will damage our assets and lives massively, especially in our coastal areas.
Effects of Climate Change
According to the opinion of the IPCC, the sea level of the Bay of Bengal will increase by about one metre by the end of this century. Rainfall will increase abruptly in the rainy areas due to climate change. So, global warming is increasing the threat to our coastal areas and low-lying lands. On the one hand, global warming will increase the rainfall in the rainy areas, and on the other hand, it will stop the rainfall in the dry areas. So, desertification will happen in some areas of our country due to the climate.
Climate Change in Bangladesh
The average temperature of Bangladesh will increase by up to 2 degrees Celsius by the year 2050. It will diminish the production of rice up to 10% and wheat up to 30% due to the shortage of water for irrigation.
Precautions
The temperature and the salinity of the seawater are increasing due to climate change. It will spoil the fish of the sea and the mangrove trees and plants of the forest. Bangladesh is under the great threat of global warming. The change in climate is affecting Asia greatly. Bangladesh, however, should take the following precautions to face the challenges of global warming:
(a) To stop the use of the CFCs and other greenhouse gases.
(b) To stop the use of firewood and biofuels.
(c) To strengthen the programmes of planting trees all over the country, especially in the coastal areas.
(d) To monitor the behaviours of the world climate and take decisions accordingly.
(e) To increase public awareness about protecting the environment.

We should prepare effective and sustainable policies and strategies for facing the challenges of climate change. It is our duty to remove the imbalance of nature.
